Online Yoga & Meditation with Angela Strynkowski

The Islip Arts Council is proud to offer online Yoga & Meditation classes with Angela Strynkowski, Owner and Founder of A Jewel in the Lotus Yoga, Director of Teacher Training, Lead Teacher Trainer Breast Cancer Yoga, Interdisciplinary Yoga Instructor.

Angela has been on the path of self-discovery and self-study since she was a child. She is an interdisciplinary Bhakti Yogi (Devotional Yogi). Angela’s first of many teachers were her family. They were role models for Union with the Divine, as well as for love of nature, travel, and exploration. Angela’s discovery of Hatha Yoga (Physical Yoga) came after a few years of “suffering” from an eating disorder, while studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Immediately, she knew that Yoga would be a part of the rest of her life.

Angela combines her studies, experience, and understanding of the Ashtanga Yoga System, Jivamukti Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Intergral Yoga, Bhakti Yoga (Devotional Yoga), and Jnana Yoga (Intellectual Yoga). Her natural love for people is one of the reasons she shares her understanding of the science and practice of Yoga. She encourages and challenges her students physically, mentally, and spiritually by allowing them to find their own way to Yoga. There is an element of focus and concentration, well-balanced with lightness, joy, and a sense of humor in all her classes. Practitioners are guided to experience and live their personal understanding of YOGA… of UNION.

1. RESTORATIVE YOGA FLOW / Mondays 10:30am-11:45am / 6-week Course On Zoom

Session B: February 8, 15, 22, March 1, 8, 15
Session C: March 29, April 5, 12, 19, 25, May 3

This class will be able to be accessed and practiced even without traditional yoga props. We will use:
4 Pillows
2 Blankets
2 Bath Towels
2 Hand Towels

Restorative yoga is a practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. If you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, doing just a few postures in the course of an hour. During the long holds of restorative yoga, however, your muscles are allowed to relax deeply. It's a unique feeling because props, rather than your muscles, are used to support your body. Restorative classes are very gentle, making them a good complement to more active practices (as well as our busy lives) and an excellent antidote to stress. Stillness is a powerful practice.

A restorative yoga sequence typically involves only five or six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest. Held for 3-5 minutes or more, Restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, hip opening poses and gentle backbends. Our pose and body is completely supported with various Yoga props during Restorative Yoga. This practice is suitable for all levels of experience. This Restorative Yoga practice will be completely on the floor reclining and seated.

During this class we will practice Restorative Flow Yoga and various yoga breathing techniques (pranayama) to lead us into a deep, blissful and healing state. You will be led into rest after practice with Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) which is a practice of deep rest.


2. CLASSICAL HATHA YOGA / Wednesdays 5:00pm-6:00pm / 4-week Course On Zoom

Session B: March 3, 10, 17, 24
Session C: April 7, 14, 21, 28

This class is appropriate for students new to yoga as well as for more seasoned practitioners who want to refine their technique and refresh their understanding of the fundamentals. Through mindful work and attention to the breath, students will learn safe alignment in basic postures and sun salutations. Build strength, flexibility, balance, and awareness to prepare to enter more advanced classes safely.


3. CHAIR YOGA / Fridays 11:00am-12:00pm / 4-week Course On Zoom
$35/IAC Member - $40/Non-member

Session A: February 5, 12, 19, 26
Session B: March 12, 19, 26, April 2
Session C: April 16, 23, 30, May 7

This gentle yoga class uses the support of a chair for yoga poses and gentle stretches. Participants will learn how to breathe more efficiently and move with mindfulness, while stretching and toning their bodies. Safe for anyone with limited mobility, pregnant women, and those with existing medical conditions.


Advanced registration is required. Registered students will be provided with a Zoom link to access the class.
