APR 2024 / OPEN CALL FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: Congressional Art Competition

The Islip Arts Council is pleased to host the 2024 Congressional Art Show Competition, which is seeking submissions from high school art students in the town of Islip. This judged art competition offers students the chance to win a trip to Washington D.C., where chosen students will have their artwork displayed in the Capitol, as well as earn community service hours and be awarded a congressional citation. 

Artworks should be two-dimensional, and accepted mediums are as follows:

  • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc
  • Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (it is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed)
  • Collages: must be two dimensional
  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photographs

Artwork cannot be larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep, including framing. Framed artworks must not weigh more than 15 pounds. Please see below link for the pdf of the official rules which offers more detailed information about the competition.

Please submit all artwork in person by April 10 to the Islip Arts Council Gallery, 1701 Sunrise Highway, Bay Shore, NY 11706 (Next to Dick's Sporting Goods). Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 11AM- 4PM.
