Jairo Ortiz is an artist based in New York. Born in Peru in 1996, he entered ENSABAP (National School of Fine Arts in Peru) in 2016. Two years later, he emigrated to the US when he started a new artistic journey of his own
In the US, painting outdoors and rarely inside his studio, Jairo used the urban and natural themes of the neighborhood where he lived for his inspiration. He found painting outdoors was a way to get to know the surroundings of a new city.
Jairo considers nature to be his greatest teacher. Each season of the year directly affects his drawing as he paints outside. He finds a huge variety of scenes and every time he looks for something to paint, it is always something new. Jairo mainly uses soft pastels and sometimes oils. Walks are his way of finding the subjects he wants to paint.
