Islip Arts Council invites artists of all backgrounds, identities, and disciplines to submit work to this special Exhibition for Black History Month at the Cohalan Courthouse in Central Islip, to honor Black History, Culture, & Creative Influence.
Who May Apply:
- Black artists are welcome to submit work of any subject matter, whether or not it directly references Black History Month
- Artists of all other backgrounds are welcome to submit work that thoughtfully and respectfully engages with Black history, culture, lived experience, or cultural influence.
All submissions should be presented with care, respect, and cultural awareness.
Theme & Artistic Focus:
Artists are encouraged to explore themes such as:
- Black history, heritage, and ancestry
- Cultural traditions, storytelling, and legacy
- Social justice, resilience, and collective memory
- Music, literature, fashion, spirituality, and community
- Contemporary reflections on identity and lived experience
- Shared histories, allyship, and cultural intersections

SUBMISSION PROCEDURES
Artists may submit up to 3 works in .jpg format through our GOOGLE ENTRY FORM FOUND HERE. All work MUST be wired and ready to hang. No work previously shown at the Gallery will be accepted.

ENTRY DEADLINE Jan 26, 2026, 11:59pm
ARTIST NOTIFICATION Jan 27, end of business day.
DELIVERY & PICK-UP OF WORK
Accepted artists may drop off on Jan 28, from 11am-4pm.
Artists will pick up their work on March 4, 11am-4pm.
IF DROP OFF OR PICK UP dates do not work for artists, special arrangements must be made prior to drop off by calling 631-888-3525.
Any work left by the artist at the Gallery beyond the assigned pick-up date will be charged a warehousing fee of $2.00 per day. A 25% donation from sold artwork will be accepted by Islip Arts Council.
Submitted work is juried for acceptance by the Curatorial Team of Islip Arts Council, and all decisions are final. Submitting a work of art implies agreement on the part of the artist with all conditions set forth in this prospectus. IAC will take reasonable care of submitted works but are not responsible for any loss or damage to said work.
