Good Samaritan University Hospital
Good Samaritan University Hospital, part of the Catholic Health system, has served the south shore of Long Island for more than 50 years. For more than 25 years, Good Samaritan has been educating the next generation of physicians in the latest, most innovative medicine, all while providing the most advanced capabilities along with the most compassionate care. Now, its name reflects that commitment to Long Islanders today and for generations to come. Adding “University” builds on the hospital’s longstanding reputation for excellence in the community, leading edge technology, expanding services, and increasing focus on academic excellence and clinical research. Good Samaritan University Hospital will redefine what a University Hospital means by blending medicine, science, innovation, compassion and teaching.
Good Samaritan University Hospital recently broke ground on its Patient Care Pavilion. This 300,000 square foot addition will be located on the northeast portion of the campus and feature a 75-bay Emergency Department, 16 high-tech replacement operating rooms and three floors of private patient rooms. These expansion plans allow it to continue to provide the highest level of health care while accommodating the growing health care needs of our surrounding Long Island community. In addition, the hospital was recently verified as the south shore of Long Island's only Level I Adult Trauma Center, was nationally ranked by US News and World report for its Obstetrics and Gynecology Services and is a Magnet-recognized hospital, nursing's highest honor.
David Auguste
David is Director of Heckscher State Park. With over 29 years of experience, he has effectively managed decreasing budgets while introducing new amenities such as disc golf and rental cottages. As a graduate of Binghamton University with a Master’s in Public Administration, David has incorporated his lessons in "doing more with less" at Heckscher. He has streamlined park functions, cross trained staff to perform many duties, and he regularly works with volunteer groups who help to maintain the park. David also specializes in training and coaching park workers to become park managers.
David is inspired daily by his wife and four children. In his free time, he enjoys snowboarding, attending Broadway shows, traveling abroad and experiencing different cultures.
Reynard Burns
Born in Harlem in 1946, Reynard has followed a path that has been rewarding, inspiring, and always moving forward.
After over forty years of directing orchestras and teaching at the public school and college levels, Reynard has been able to engage in projects and programs that reach a larger audience. His compositions have been performed for several Islip Arts Council programs and concerts including the Annual Concert in the Park and the Immersion Project “Flight,” which featured the story of the Tuskegee Airmen.
Reynard has appeared as guest conductor for youth orchestras in the New York area and has been commissioned to compose music for orchestras in New York and Utah. His compositions have been performed across the United States and abroad.
He is the founder and president of Reynard Burns Publishing Inc., and continues to present workshops and lectures about composers of color. He has served as Public Relations Officer for the Islip Town Branch of the NAACP and has been Public Relations Officer for the Claude B. Govan Tri-State Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. for many years. In 2017, Reynard served as liaison between West Point and the Tuskegee Airmen for the dedication of the Benjamin O. Davis Barracks at West Point.
Christina Macina
Christina joined the Islip Arts Council in 2019 bringing nearly 20 years of experience in not-for-profit companies and institutions. She has rich and varied experience with both public and private companies. Over the past five years, Christina has been working with Lynda Moran, IAC Executive Director, to strengthen internal controls and to obtain grants for the many programs offered by the Islip Arts Council.
She has spearheaded and implemented new techniques for the IAC consignment gift shop, where local artisans show and sell their work. Christina’s track record for organizing both work and teams is a strength utilized across the many programs IAC offers. She always strives towards creating a productive yet welcoming and friendly work environment, encouraging every team member to use their strengths.
Christina graduated from St. John’s University where she met her husband, Joe. They have three children, and enjoy playing golf whenever they can.
