NOV 2024 / IAC Five Decades of Inspiration Celebration

From art shows to cosplay contests, the Islip Arts Council has been an integral part of the community. For 50 years, it has been dedicated to leadership, advocacy, and excellence in the arts. This past Friday evening in Bay Shore, the Islip Arts Council and AARP hosted the opening reception for their “Five Decades of Inspiration” exhibition.

In celebration of 50 years, the Islip Arts Council and AARP invited individuals aged 50 and older to create artwork reflecting their favorite decade: the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, or 2010s. Artists showcased their visions through painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture.

Starting at 6 p.m., attendees began arriving at the IAC Art Gallery in Bay Shore, some even wearing outfits and accessories associated with the decades being showcased. All were invited to walk around and view the many nostalgic and unique art pieces.

While exploring the exhibit and enjoying refreshments, "The Troubadour Revival" provided musical entertainment, further immersing attendees into the throwback celebration. The band takes inspiration from a bygone era, and the tribute show offers music from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s.

The Islip Arts Council’s celebratory exhibition is open to the public until Dec 5.
